Finding a file by its folder
Plathix does not add a new search engine. It gives WordPress search a smaller place to look: find the folder, open it, search inside it. These checks find folders by part of their name, sort the tree, compare folder counts with the real files, and open the media picker in Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi and WooCommerce. Seven checks passed; the run with 1,000+ folders is still planned. Related rows of the regression suite are listed below them.
The claim we are testing
“Plathix gives you a shorter route: find the folder, open it, then use WordPress search and filters inside that folder.”
Why this is worth testing
On a library with thousands of files the problem is rarely the search box. It is that everything sits on one long page. So the checks follow the route Plathix offers instead: find the folder by part of its name, open it, search inside it, and do the same from the media windows of the editors people actually use.
What we check
- Search folders by part of a name, in different letter cases, with Cyrillic names and with folders nested three levels deep.
- Type a name that does not exist, then clear the search.
- Sort the tree A → Z, Z → A, newest first and oldest first, check every level, then reload the page.
- Compare folder counts with the real number of files, upload files, and compare the counts as Administrator, Editor and Author.
- Open the list view and check the Folder column and the Folder field with Change in Attachment details.
- Open the media picker from Gutenberg (Image, Gallery, Cover, featured image), Elementor, Divi Builder and WooCommerce, pick a folder and compare the files shown.
- Upload files with a folder open, from the Media Library and from the media picker.
- Browse, search and filter a library of 3,105 files in 133 folders.
Results
| What we checked | Result |
|---|---|
| Folder search | Passed — part of a name, any letter case, Cyrillic names; nested folders are found and their parent branches open |
| Tree sorting | Passed — A → Z and Z → A, also with Cyrillic names, newest and oldest first, on every level; the choice survives a reload |
| Counts + Folder column | Passed — counts match the real files, update after an upload without a reload and are the same for every role; Folder column and Folder field with Change |
| Gutenberg picker | Passed — Image, Gallery, Cover and featured image; the highlighted folder matches the files shown; file search in the picker matches the Media Library |
| Elementor / Divi | Passed — Elementor Image widget, document image and background in August 2026 (Elementor 4.2.3), the Image widget again on 22 Sep (4.2.4); Divi Builder: a click on a folder shows only its files |
| WooCommerce | Passed — product image with correct folder counts; product gallery from one folder; with 200 products a folder opens in about 2 s |
| 3,105 files / 133 folders | Passed — browsing, search and filter without freezes; the Plathix Home page loaded in 3.8 s |
| 1,000+ folders / tens of thousands | Scheduled — the larger run is part of the large Media Library test |
Earlier regression checks
Find fast is also part of the Free regression suite that runs before a release. These are its related checks with the latest result, from the runs of 18 Aug and 9 Sep 2026 on two live sites with Plathix Free 1.0.0.
| What we checked | Result |
|---|---|
| No match shows “No folders found.”; clearing the search brings the tree back | Passed |
| Typing in folder search does not lag on a tree of 96 folders | Passed — 96 folders on 18 Aug, 34 on 9 Sep |
| Media, Uncategorized and Trash stay on top and cannot be renamed, moved or deleted | Passed |
| Folders switch without a page reload; the open folder stays after a reload | Passed |
| Ten quick clicks in a row: the grid always shows the folder that was clicked | Passed — September run |
| Grid and list view show the same files; date filter, search and sort stay on page 2 | Passed |
| New uploads go to the open folder, also when you switch folders during the upload | Passed — PDF, DOCX and ZIP too; 55 and 520 files at once |
| Uploads from list view go to the open folder | Passed — September run |
| The media picker works with ACF, Beaver Builder, Oxygen, Modula and Brizy | Passed |
| The tree loads in parts above 200 folders; a folder with 500 files opens in under 3 s | Passed |
| No folder or file limits in Free, checked up to 3,148 files | Passed — 168 folders |
| Tab reaches every folder, Enter opens it | Passed |
| The Uncategorized count right after files are moved out of it | Scheduled — in 1.0.0 it updates after a page reload; the fix is ready in the code and comes with the next release; a re-check is scheduled |
How we tested
Latest runs: the Free regression runs of 18 Aug and 9 Sep 2026 on two live WordPress sites with Plathix Free 1.0.0 and WordPress 7.1, and the Elementor and WooCommerce run of 22 Sep 2026 (Elementor 4.2.4). The 3,105-file library ran in the September run; in August that library was not set up yet.
Known limits
- Folder search matches folder names only. It does not search files.
- The media picker has the folder tree, counts and WordPress file search, but no folder search, tree sorting or Favorites block.
- A folder count shows the files directly in that folder. Files in child folders are not added, and an empty folder shows no number.
- “By size” orders folders by the number of files directly inside them, not by megabytes.
- Changing folders in the media picker resets the current selection.
Not covered yet
- The media windows of the Classic editor, the Site Editor and the Customizer.
- Elementor on the current build, and uploads through the Elementor media window.
- The Default upload folder setting receiving uploads when no folder is chosen.
- Trees with 500+ folders, 1,000+ folders and tens of thousands of files.
- Folder names with CJK characters, accents or emoji in search.
- WPML.
- PRO: folder search on posts and pages, and folder sizes in Folder info.
