Folders for Meta Box post types
A chain adds a location every month and closes one now and then. Meta Box gives each location its fields: address, hours, manager. The list in wp-admin is still one long column of names.
Plathix PRO adds private folders to the list of each post type you create with MB Custom Post Types. Group items by region, status or task and open just the folder you need. Fields and URLs stay as they are.
Rich fields, a plain list
Meta Box makes the edit screen of each item rich: a map, opening hours, a photo gallery, a contact person. The list of items stays a plain WordPress list.
You could add a Region taxonomy for sorting. Then it becomes part of your data, and often part of the site. Opening dates, photo checks and closed stores are team business.
Folders give the team its own structure on the list, without touching your fields or taxonomies.
The fields are done. Now the list needs groups.
People who build types with Meta Box describe the same next step. The edit screen is ready. Then the team asks how to narrow and group the list.
The Posts list has a dropdown to filter by category. People want the same dropdown for their own taxonomy, right above the list of the type they built.
To group team members by university, the same value would be typed twice: once in a field and once in a category.
Builders keep taxonomies for groups that visitors browse. Two or three per type is plenty. More than that makes filtering confusing.
Folders give the team its groups on the list in wp-admin, without a new field or taxonomy. Your fields and terms stay as they are.
Folders that match how you run the content
By region
Each regional manager opens their folder and sees their locations only.
Opening soon
Prepare a new location as a draft and keep it in one folder until the doors open.
Checks to do
Hours to confirm, photos to replace, a new manager to add: one folder per job.
Closed, kept for records
Closed locations move out of the daily list. Their data stays where it is.
One folder tree for each type you create
One tree per post type
Each post type you create with MB Custom Post Types gets a separate tree, if its slug has 17 characters or fewer.
The Post Types and Taxonomies lists
Meta Box keeps your type and taxonomy definitions in two lists of its own. Those lists can get folder trees too.
Search and tabs inside a folder
Search, the status tabs and the date filter work inside the open folder. A Folder column shows where each item is filed.
A link for each folder
The address changes when you open a folder, so a regional manager can bookmark theirs.
Meta Box never sees your folders
| What you do | What changes | What stays as it is |
|---|---|---|
| Put a location in a folder | Its Plathix folder | Its fields, terms, URL and status |
| Change the type’s labels or icon in Meta Box | The type’s settings | Its folders and every item in them |
| Rename or move a folder | The folder tree in wp-admin | Every page, archive and menu on the site |
| Trash a location, then restore it | Its Trash state | Its folder: it comes back to the same place |
| Turn Plathix PRO off | The list looks like plain WordPress | Your folders wait in the database and come back |
Folders have no URLs and never appear on the site.
How we test Meta Box post types
We run each check on a live site with Plathix PRO, the current Meta Box and MB Custom Post Types, on a type with custom fields.
Status Planned
Results go to Plathix Lab. Each row turns into a link once it has run.
| Check | What we verify | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Enable an MB post type | The type appears in Enabled Sections; the panel appears on its list. | Planned |
| Fields unchanged | Put an item in a folder: its custom fields are the same. | Planned |
| Sortable mode | A type with Meta Box post ordering: the folder panel together with its sortable mode. | Planned |
| Post Types list | Folders on the Meta Box Post Types list; its own columns stay. | Planned |
| Trash and restore | A trashed item comes back to its folder. | Planned |
