Switch folder plugins without sorting your Media Library again
Already organized your media with FileBird, HappyFiles, Real Media Library, WP Media Folder, or Wicked Folders?
Bring your folder structure and media placement into Plathix instead of rebuilding it by hand.
Your media files stay where WordPress stored them. Their URLs do not change, and Plathix does not change the old plugin data.
Keep the organization you already built
A large Media Library can take months to organize. Switching folder plugins should not mean creating every folder again and sorting thousands of files from zero.
What Plathix imports · Why it matters
Folder names
Keep the names your team already uses.
Subfolders
Keep the folder tree you already built.
Media placement
Files already assigned to folders can appear in the matching Plathix folders after import.
Before and after
Before — FileBird
After — Plathix
Same files. Same URLs. New folder plugin.
File counts may differ when the source plugin allows one file to appear in several folders.
Plathix can find an old folder plugin
When Plathix finds data from a supported folder plugin, Home can show a notice such as:
All five supported sources appear there with one of these states:
The Home notice shows one detected source at a time. You can also dismiss it for your account.
The old plugin can already be disabled
You do not need to keep the old folder plugin active just for the migration.
Plathix reads the folder information stored in your WordPress database. If that information was removed together with the old plugin, there may be nothing left to import.
Old plugin off?
The import can still work if its folder data remains in WordPress.
Your files do not move
Migration changes the virtual folder information used by Plathix. It does not move files to another server directory or upload them again.
/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/logo.png/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/logo.pngThe file path and URL stay the same.
One click starts the import
Open Plathix → Tools → Import from Other Plugins. Choose a detected source and start the import.
There is no preview or confirmation step before it begins. The work runs in the background.
If the import finishes while the Tools page is waiting, Plathix shows the number of moved items. Large imports can keep running after that page stops waiting. Reload Tools later to see the Imported mark.
Moved items is not a file count
It is a count of folder moves, not necessarily a count of unique files.
Import runs once per source
After a completed import, the source is marked as Imported and its import button is disabled in Tools.
If you later add more folders to the old plugin, Tools does not offer another import from the same source.
What comes over — and what does not
Comes to Plathix
Does not come over
Custom folder order is not guaranteed to carry over.
Real Media Library
File shortcuts are not imported.
Wicked Folders
Only Media Library folders are imported. Post and page folders are not.
WP Media Folder
Its internal root folder is not imported. Its child folders become top-level Plathix folders.
FileBird
User-specific folders from FileBird Pro are imported as normal shared folders. Plathix does not create private user folders from them.
Already have folders in Plathix?
If a folder with the same name already exists at the same level, Plathix can reuse it instead of creating a duplicate.
No “Logos (2)” in the normal case
A matching folder already sitting in Plathix Trash is not reused.
One file has one Plathix folder
Some folder plugins can place the same media file in several folders. Plathix keeps one folder placement for each media file.
If the source contains several placements, one of them becomes the final Plathix folder. A deeper folder is processed after its parent. Among folders at the same level, the one processed later can become the final location.
Already organized some files in Plathix?
The import can change those assignments.
Important before you import
If a file is already in a Plathix folder, importing the same file from another folder plugin moves it to the imported folder.
Your file itself is not deleted or duplicated. This is why a backup before migration is recommended.
If the import is interrupted
Plathix saves unfinished import progress for up to 72 hours.
Continue
Resume the unfinished import.
Start over
Remove the folders created by that unfinished import and immediately begin the import again.
Folders that existed before the import and were reused are not removed.
What happens after 72 hours
If an unfinished import is left for more than 72 hours, Plathix can automatically clean it up during its daily maintenance task.
Folders created by that unfinished import are removed. The media files stay in the Media Library, but they may be left without a Plathix folder.
Their previous Plathix folder placement is not restored automatically. Because cleanup runs on a daily schedule, it may happen sometime after the 72-hour point rather than at exactly 72 hours.
There is no Undo after completion
A completed migration has no one-click Undo. You can remove imported folders manually.
Plathix also has Start from scratch, but this is not a migration undo. It removes all user-created Plathix folders, except the system folders used by Plathix.
Your media files stay in WordPress.
Back up before you import
Migration does not change the source plugin data or move your physical files. But it does change Plathix folder assignments, including assignments you may already have made in Plathix.
Recommended
Create a backup before importing a large or important Media Library.
Who can run an import?
Migration from Tools is available to WordPress administrators with the required site-management permission.
The feature itself is included in Plathix Free. PRO adds command-line access for teams that manage WordPress from WP-CLI.
PRO command-line import
PRO includes commands for checking available sources and starting an import from WP-CLI.
For a command-line import, an administrator user must be supplied when starting the job.
How we test migration
We do not call a migration tested from code review alone. Live migration tests are still planned for each supported source.
| Source | What we will verify | Status |
|---|---|---|
| FileBird | Folders, media placement, multiple-folder files, order | Live test planned |
| HappyFiles | Folders, subfolders, media placement, URLs | Live test planned |
| Real Media Library | Folders, media placement, shortcut behavior | Live test planned |
| WP Media Folder | Folders, root-folder behavior, media placement | Live test planned |
| Wicked Folders | Media Library folders and content-folder limit | Live test planned |
For each test, we publish the WordPress version, source plugin version, starting folder tree, files before import, folders and placements after import, file URLs, warnings, skipped items, and known limits.

Change the folder plugin, not your whole workflow
You already spent time organizing your Media Library.
Bring that structure into Plathix without re-uploading files or changing their URLs.
