Folders for Pods post types
Pods sites hold real catalogs: books, staff, locations, products with fields and relationships. New items arrive every season, and the old ones stay in the same list.
Plathix PRO adds private folders to the list of each custom post type you build with Pods. Group items by season, status or task and open just the folder you need. Fields, relationships and URLs stay as they are.
Fields for the data, nothing for the team
Pods gives each item its fields and connects it to other items: a book to its author, a location to its region. That is the data your site shows.
The team needs other groups: what is coming next season, what still needs a cover, what is out of print but must stay online. In the Pods list all of it is one column of titles.
Folders hold those working groups without adding a field or a taxonomy to your pod.
Thousands of entries, one list to work in
People who keep real data in Pods describe the same thing. The data model works. The list in wp-admin is where the daily work gets hard.
One post type made with Pods holds 10,000 entries. The team needs a way to narrow that list in wp-admin.
The site already shows and filters the data for visitors. Now the admins expect to narrow the same post type list in wp-admin.
A migration brings about 25,000 posts over from the old site. Finding one of them in the back office becomes the main problem.
Folders give the team its own groups on that list, without a new field or taxonomy in the pod. Search and the status tabs work inside each folder.
Folders that match how a catalog works
By season
Prepare next season’s items as drafts while this season is live.
Waiting for assets
Items that still need a cover, a photo or a sample file, in one place.
Checks before publishing
Rights, prices, translations: one folder per check, cleared by the person who owns it.
Out of print, still online
Old items stay published for search and for readers, and move out of the daily list.
One folder tree for each Pods post type
One tree per post type
Each Custom Post Type pod gets a separate tree. Books folders never mix with Authors or Events folders.
Extended types keep theirs
Pods fields on Posts, Pages or another plugin’s type do not change that type’s folders.
A Folder column
Every row shows its folder; click it to open that folder. Search and the status tabs work inside it.
A link for each folder
The address changes when you open a folder, so a season or a task list can be bookmarked or shared.
Pods never sees your folders
| What you do | What changes | What stays as it is |
|---|---|---|
| Put a book in a folder | Its Plathix folder | Its fields, relationships, URL and status |
| Edit fields in Pods | The book’s data | Its folder |
| Rename or move a folder | The folder tree in wp-admin | Pods templates, shortcodes and pages on the site |
| Trash a book, then restore it | Its Trash state | Its folder: it comes back to the same place |
| Turn Plathix PRO off | The list looks like plain WordPress | Your folders wait in the database and come back |
Folders have no URLs and never appear on the site.
How we test Pods post types
We run each check on a live site with Plathix PRO and the current Pods version, on a post type pod with fields and a relationship.
Status Planned
Results go to Plathix Lab. Each row turns into a link once it has run.
| Check | What we verify | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Enable a pod | A Custom Post Type pod appears in Enabled Sections; the panel appears on its list. | Planned |
| Fields unchanged | Put an item in a folder: its fields and relationships are the same. | Planned |
| Table storage | A pod that keeps its fields in a custom table still gets folders. | Planned |
| Extended post type | Pods fields on Pages: the Pages tree stays the same. | Planned |
| Trash and restore | A trashed item comes back to its folder. | Planned |
