Folders for bbPress forums
bbPress already sorts topics into forums. What it has no place for is your own work: topics to answer, threads to turn into help pages, forums you keep only for the record.
Plathix PRO adds a private folder layer to the Forums, Topics and Replies lists in wp-admin. It sits on top of your forums and never moves a topic. Forum structure, links and who can post stay as they are.
Forums organize the community, not your to-do list
Every topic belongs to one forum, and the Topics list can be filtered by forum. That is the structure your members see, and it should stay that way.
Your team needs other groups: topics still waiting for an answer, threads worth turning into a help page, reports to pass on. These groups cross forums, and members do not need to see them.
Busy communities bury their own answers
People who run a bbPress community describe the same thing. Answering is easy. Seeing what still needs an answer is not.
New replies are hard to spot. From the dashboard you cannot tell which topic is which, so the answering happens from the front end.
Moderators want a resolved mark that does not close the topic, so they can keep things organized.
Old topics pile up. Owners look for a way to archive everything older than a year.
People ask the same questions over and over. Those answers belong in a FAQ.
Folders add that private layer to the Topics list: to answer, resolved, FAQ material, old. To close or hide a topic for members, bbPress statuses still do that job.
Folders for the work behind a forum
Topics to answer
One queue across all forums: questions still waiting for a reply from your team.
Resolved
Answered topics go to Resolved, so To answer shows only what is still open. Members see the topic exactly as before.
FAQ material
Threads with a good answer go to one folder. When you write the help page, the material is already collected.
Reports to pass on
Bug reports and feature ideas from many forums, filed for the people who act on them.
Old forums
Forums you keep for the record can sit in an Archive folder on the Forums list. To close them for members, use the bbPress Closed status.
Replies worth keeping
The Replies list has its own tree: best answers, replies to quote, replies to check.
Three bbPress lists, three folder trees
Forums
A tree on the Forums list, separate from the forum hierarchy.
Topics
Topics get their own tree, next to the bbPress filter by forum.
Replies
A third tree for replies you want to find again.
Closed and hidden count
Folder counts include closed and hidden items. Spam and orphaned items are not counted.
Your community never sees your folders
| What you do | What changes | What stays as it is |
|---|---|---|
| Put a topic in a folder | Its Plathix folder | Its forum, its replies and its link |
| Move a topic to another forum | Its forum in bbPress | Its folder: forums and folders are separate |
| Close a forum | Its bbPress status | Its folder, and its place in the folder count |
| Rename or move a folder | The folder tree in wp-admin | Forum pages, topic links and who can post |
| Turn Plathix PRO off | The lists look like plain WordPress | Your folders wait in the database and come back |
Folders have no URLs and never appear in forums, topics or site search.
How we test bbPress folders
We run each check on a live site with Plathix PRO and the current bbPress version, on the real Forums, Topics and Replies lists.
Status Planned
Results go to Plathix Lab. Each row turns into a link once it has run.
| Check | What we verify | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Enable three lists | Turn on forums, topics and replies in Enabled Sections; a panel appears on each list. | Planned |
| Forum filter | The bbPress “In all forums” filter together with a folder on the Topics list. | Planned |
| Move a topic | A topic moved to another forum keeps its folder. | Planned |
| Closed and spam | Closed topics count in their folder; spam does not. | Planned |
| Folder column | Whether the Folder column shows next to the bbPress columns. | Planned |
| Forum pages unchanged | Forums and topics look the same to members with folders on. | Planned |
