Folders for FooGallery galleries
A photo site gains galleries every month: each wedding, each event, each product shoot. The FooGallery list soon turns into one long column of names.
Plathix PRO adds private folders to the FooGallery Galleries list, and to Albums when you use them. Group galleries by client, event or year. Each gallery, its images and its shortcode stay as they are.
Every shoot adds a gallery and the list keeps growing
The Galleries list shows everything in one column: this month’s weddings, last year’s events, product shots and test galleries you forgot to delete.
The free FooGallery has no categories for galleries. Albums group galleries for visitors, but an album is something people see on the site, not a private shelf for you.
Every event adds galleries, and the newest one gets harder to reach
People with photo sites rarely talk about one gallery. They talk about how many they have, and how to keep them in order.
Every event gets a gallery of its own. With several events a year, the list keeps getting longer.
There are a lot of galleries now, and getting to the newest one is a pain.
Several hundred galleries, and you want to put them into groups.
An archive with a gallery for every weekly edition, sorted by decade, year and month, can soon feel cluttered.
Folders give each event, client or year its own place in the Galleries list. Galleries, albums and pages stay as they are.
Folders that match how you shoot and publish
By event or season
One folder per season or event series. Next year you find last year’s set in one click.
By client
Photographers and agencies give each client a folder, so all of a client’s galleries are together when they call.
Product galleries
Keep product shots apart from portfolio work, with a subfolder for each product line.
Old galleries
Galleries from past years move to an archive folder instead of being deleted. They still work on every page that shows them.
Two lists, two folder trees
Galleries
The folder panel sits next to the FooGallery Galleries list. Click a folder and the list shows only its galleries.
Albums
Turn on Albums in FooGallery, then enable the Albums list in Plathix. Albums get their own tree, apart from galleries.
A Folder column
Every row shows its folder, beside FooGallery’s own columns such as Media and Usage.
A link for each folder
The address changes when you open a folder, so you can bookmark it or send it to a teammate.
FooGallery never sees your folders
| What you do | What changes | What stays as it is |
|---|---|---|
| Put a gallery in a folder | Its Plathix folder | The gallery, its images and its layout |
| Rename or move a folder | The folder tree in wp-admin | Every shortcode and block that shows the gallery |
| Add a gallery to an album | The album in FooGallery | The gallery’s folder: albums and folders are separate |
| Trash a gallery, then restore it | Its Trash state | Its folder: it comes back to the same place |
| Turn Plathix PRO off | The list looks like plain WordPress | Your folders wait in the database and come back |
Folders have no URLs and never appear on the site.
How we test FooGallery galleries
We run each check on a live site with Plathix PRO and the current FooGallery version, on the real Galleries and Albums screens.
Status Planned
Results go to Plathix Lab. Each row turns into a link once it has run.
| Check | What we verify | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Enable galleries | Turn on FooGallery galleries in Enabled Sections; the panel appears on the list. | Planned |
| Albums tree | With Albums turned on, the Albums list gets its own tree. | Planned |
| Shortcode unchanged | Move a gallery between folders: the page that shows it looks the same. | Planned |
| Search in a folder | Search the Galleries list inside an open folder. | Planned |
| Trash and restore | A trashed gallery comes back to its folder. | Planned |
