Folders for Modern Events Calendar

Modern Events Calendar gives its Events list good filters: start date, category, location, organizer, label. It has no place for your own groups: last year’s program, one client’s events, the ones you run again.

Plathix PRO adds private folders to the Events list in M.E. Calendar. File expired events by year, group events by season or client, and keep them published. The calendar views, event pages and their addresses stay as they are.

Filters are not folders

Good filters, no place for your own groups

Modern Events Calendar filters the Events list by start date, category, location, organizer and label, and it has Expired Events and Upcoming Events buttons. They answer “when” and “where”.

They do not answer “which program”, “which client” or “which events do we run again”. Teams use categories for that, and MEC categories have their own pages on the site.

Or they leave expired events in the list for years, because deleting them loses the history.

In people’s words

Expired events add up

Most events on a busy calendar are already over. The question that keeps coming up is how to clear them out, because doing it by hand takes too long.

We have a lot of small events that are over. Removing them by hand would take far too much time.

Expired events should go away on their own, without clearing the list one event at a time.

Old events should move somewhere else, so the events list in the admin stays organised.

More than a thousand events, many with almost the same name. Finding the right one to update is tedious.

A folder per year gives expired events a place to go. They stay published, and the folder you plan in shows only that season.

Folders that match how you plan events

Expired events by year

Move expired events to “Expired 2025”. They stay published; open “Spring 2027” and you see only what you are planning.

By season or program

Spring 2027, Summer school, Annual festival: one folder for each program you plan.

By client

For agencies and venues that run events for others: one folder per client.

Events to run again

Keep the events you repeat every year in “To run again”, ready to copy for the next season.

Work in progress

Drafts to check, events waiting for photos or prices. A to-do list next to the events.

Archive without deleting.Expired events go into a folder. They stay published on the site and out of your way in wp-admin.
What you get

Folders where you manage events

A folder tree next to Events

Open the Events list in M.E. Calendar as usual. Click a folder and the list shows only its events.

Search inside a folder

Search and the status tabs work inside the open folder.

A Folder column

Each event shows its folder next to its title. Click it to open that folder.

Shortcodes too

The Shortcodes list, where MEC keeps the calendar views you build, can get its own folder tree.

A link for each folder

The address changes when you open a folder, so you can bookmark it or send it to a teammate.

Virtual folders

The calendar never sees your folders

Modern Events Calendar folders FAQ

Do folders change my calendar or event URLs?
No. Folders live in wp-admin only. Event pages, their addresses and every calendar view stay as they are.
How is a folder different from an MEC category?
A category is part of the event and has its own page on the site. A folder is private to wp-admin and never appears in the calendar.
Can I archive expired events without deleting them?
Yes. Put them in a folder. They stay published, and you open the folder only when you need them.
Do locations and organizers get folders?
No. In MEC they are terms, like categories, not lists of their own. Events and shortcodes get folders.
Do folders appear with MEC Lite too?
Yes. MEC Lite keeps events in the normal WordPress list, and the folder panel sits on that list.
Is this in Plathix Free?
No. Content folders are part of Plathix PRO. Free organizes the Media Library.
