Folders for podcast episodes
A weekly show makes fifty episodes a year. After a few years and a second show, the episodes list is hundreds of rows long.
Plathix PRO adds private folders to the Seriously Simple Podcasting episodes list. Group episodes by season, guest or work stage and open one folder at a time. Your podcasts, feeds and episode files stay as they are.
Four hundred episodes in one list
All Episodes shows every episode of every show at once. You can filter it by date and search it by title.
The groups the plugin already has work for listeners. A podcast is a feed with its own page. Tags are shared with your blog posts and are public too. Neither is a good place for notes like ‘in editing’ or ‘needs a cover’.
Years of episodes in one archive
Shows that run for years build big archives. The trouble starts at housekeeping time, or when a new person takes over the site.
Over 400 episodes, and each show has its own series. For housekeeping you need to see one show at a time.
A large archive of more than 700 episodes, spread among thousands of other posts.
A new admin takes over a site with several shows, more than six years of work and about 2,000 episodes.
Moving to a new player means touching every old episode page. With a large back catalog, that is a long list of pages to work through.
Folders per season, stage or archive year sort that list in wp-admin. Feeds and episode pages stay as they are.
Folders for how you make a show
By season
One folder per season, so you can see a whole season at once. Listeners still get the same feed.
Guest episodes
Interviews in one folder, so you find every guest when you plan a best-of episode.
Work in progress
Drafts move through stages: recorded, in editing, needs a cover. A folder per stage shows the team what is next.
Old archive
Took over a show with years of episodes? Put the old ones in an archive folder. They stay published and in the feed.
Old episodes to update
Switching players or fixing old show notes? Put the episodes you still have to touch in a To update folder, and move each one to Done when it is finished. They stay published while you work.
A folder panel for All Episodes
A folder tree next to the list
The panel sits beside All Episodes. Click a folder and the list shows only its episodes.
A Folder column
Every row shows its folder; click it to open that folder.
Search inside a folder
Search, status tabs and the date filter work inside the open folder.
A link for each folder
The address changes when you open a folder, so you can bookmark it or send it to a teammate.
Your feeds never see your folders
| What you do | What changes | What stays as it is |
|---|---|---|
| Put an episode in a folder | Its Plathix folder | The episode, its audio file and its podcast |
| Rename or move a folder | The folder tree in wp-admin | Every podcast feed and episode page |
| Publish an episode from a folder | It goes out in its podcast feed, as before | Its folder |
| Trash an episode, then restore it | Its Trash state | Its folder: it comes back to the same place |
| Turn Plathix PRO off | The list looks like plain WordPress | Your folders wait in the database and come back |
Folders have no URLs and never appear on the site.
How we test Seriously Simple Podcasting
We run each check on a live site with Plathix PRO and the current Seriously Simple Podcasting version, on the real All Episodes screen.
Status Planned
Results go to Plathix Lab. Each row turns into a link once it has run.
| Check | What we verify | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Enable episodes | Turn on Episode (podcast) in Enabled Sections; the panel appears on All Episodes. | Planned |
| Several podcasts | Folder filter together with a podcast filter from the Podcasts column. | Planned |
| Feed unchanged | The podcast feed lists the same episodes after filing them in folders. | Planned |
| Episodes in Posts | With podcast functions on for Posts, episodes show in the Posts tree. | Planned |
| Trash and restore | A trashed episode comes back to its folder. | Planned |
