Folders for The Events Calendar

A busy calendar adds hundreds of events a year. Past events stay published for history and search, but in wp-admin they bury the next ones, and the built-in tidy-up can only delete them.

Plathix PRO adds private folders to the Events, Venues and Organizers lists in wp-admin. File past events by year, group events by season or client, keep a folder of events you repeat. The calendar, the event pages and their addresses stay as they are.

Past events pile up

Delete them, hide them, or keep scrolling

Every events site reaches the same point: the list of past events grows longer than the list of upcoming ones.

The Events Calendar can move old events to the trash or delete them for good once they pass an age you choose, from one month to three years. The history people still look up goes with them.

The other ways out cost something too. Unpublish an event and its link stops working. An “Archive” category gets a public page. And the free Events list has no filter for venue, organizer or category, so you scroll.

In people’s words

Past events pile up. Deleting feels final.

Teams that run a busy calendar describe the same moment. The list has grown too long to find things in, and the only tidy-up they know is to delete.

More than a thousand events on one site. It gets hard to find the one event you need to edit.

Fifteen hundred past classes, talks and exhibitions. You look for reasons to keep them before doing something so final.

Every year the same events are set up again and adjusted one by one. It adds a lot of admin time.

When an event is over, the quick fix is to delete it, just to stop living with the clutter.

A folder gives past events somewhere to go. They stay published, and you open them only when you need them.

Folders that match how an events team works

Past events by year

File last year’s events under “Past 2025”. They stay published with their links, and out of your daily list.

By season or program

Spring season, Summer camp, Annual program: see one program’s events together while you plan it.

By venue, for your team

Main hall, Garden, Online. A private group for planning; the venue set on each event does not change.

By client or organizer

For agencies and venues that run events for others: one folder per client or partner.

Events you repeat

Keep last year’s best events in “To repeat” as a starting point for next season’s plan.

Archive without deleting.Put past events into a folder. They stay published on the site and out of your way in wp-admin.
What you get

Three lists, three folder trees

Events

The folder panel sits next to the Events list. Click a folder and the list shows only its events.

Venues

Venues have their own list under Events and a tree of their own: by city, by partner, or places you no longer use.

Organizers

Organizers get a third tree. Group them by client, team or season.

A Folder column

Each row shows its folder. Click it to open that folder.

A link for each folder

The address changes when you open a folder, so you can bookmark “Past 2025” or send it to a teammate.

Virtual folders

The calendar never sees your folders

The Events Calendar folders FAQ

Do folders change my calendar or event URLs?
No. Folders live in wp-admin only. Event pages, their addresses and the calendar stay as they are.
Can visitors see the folders?
No. Folders are not event categories or tags. They have no pages and never appear in the calendar.
Can I archive past events without deleting them?
Yes. Put them in a folder. They stay published, and you open the folder only when you need them.
Will a folder protect events from the calendar’s cleanup?
No. If the Maintenance settings move old events to the trash or delete them, that still happens. Set both to Disabled to keep an archive.
Do venues and organizers get folders?
Yes. They are separate lists under Events, and each one gets its own folder tree.
Is this in Plathix Free?
No. Content folders are part of Plathix PRO. Free organizes the Media Library.
