A ready folder set is a folder tree for the Media Library: folder names, nesting, and optionally colors and favorites. In the plugin it is called a preset. Applying a set creates its folders, empty, and leaves your files as they are.
Video: Ready Folder Sets demo
When you need this
- A new blog. You apply Blog & Content and get Editorial, Videos, Infographics and Brand in one step. Then you sort your uploads into them.
- An agency that builds many client sites. You export the folder tree from one site, then upload and apply it on the next. Every site starts with the same folders.
- A WooCommerce store. You apply E-Commerce for Products, Banners and Brand. Then you rename the product subfolders to match your categories.
How to apply a ready folder set
- Open Plathix > Presets. The address is
admin.php?page=plathix-presets. - Find a set. Type in Search presets…, click a tag such as blog, or use the list next to the search box.
- Read the card: the badge, name, author, description, the first six folder lines, “N folders · Media Library only” and tags.
- Click Apply Preset ›.
- Confirm the dialog “Apply this preset? It adds a ready-made folder structure to your media library. Your existing folders and media are not deleted; folders with matching names are created with an “— imported” suffix.”
- Read the notice, for example ‘Preset “E-Commerce” applied. 8 folders created.’
- Open Media > Library. The new folders are in the sidebar.
The Presets screen:
- The header reads “Presets” and “Apply a folder structure preset, upload your own package, or start from scratch.” The buttons are Upload preset (.zip), Start from scratch and Reset wizard.
- The search box matches the title and the description. With no match you see “No presets match your search.”
- The list next to it has Most Popular (the default order, by title), A → Z, Built-in first (shows only built-in sets) and Custom / Uploaded (shows only the other sets).
- Tag links start with All.
- Cards are grouped as Built-in and Custom (everything you upload, including your own exports), and sorted by title. Built-in sets carry the badge Official. Uploaded sets carry the badge Custom.
Nine sets ship with the plugin. Each has two levels and ends with a Brand folder holding Logos and Icons. None of them sets colors or favorites.
- Blog & Content (8 folders): Editorial (Featured Images, Authors), Videos, Infographics, Brand
- Creative Agency (9): Portfolio (Web Design, Print, Branding), Clients, Team, Brand
- E-Commerce (8): Products (Electronics, Clothing, Home & Garden), Banners, Brand
- Fashion & Apparel (8): Collections (Spring-Summer, Autumn-Winter), Lookbooks, Campaign, Brand
- News & Media (7): Breaking News, Sports, Opinion, Archive, Brand
- Nonprofit (7): Campaigns, Events, Impact, Team, Brand
- Photography (9): Portfolio (Portraits, Landscape, Events), Clients, Archive, Brand
- Real Estate (8): Listings (Residential, Commercial), Agents, Locations, Brand
- Restaurant (9): Menu (Starters, Mains, Desserts), Ambience, Events, Brand
What happens when you apply a set:
- Existing folders are not deleted, renamed or moved. Files are not moved. The new folders are empty.
- If a folder with the same name already exists under the same parent, the new one is named
Name - imported. The next one isName - imported 2, and so on. - The suffix uses a plain hyphen, although the dialog text shows a dash.
- Names are compared only among folders with the same parent. Folders in the Trash count as existing names.
- Colors in a custom preset are applied. Folders marked as favorite in a custom preset are added to your own favorites. Other users’ favorites do not change.
- There is no undo. Remove unwanted folders by hand, or use Start from scratch.
- If a folder cannot be created, the folders created so far stay and its subfolders are skipped. The other folders are still created. The notice then reads “Apply failed.” Open the Media Library to see which folders were created.
- If another apply or reset is running, you see “Preset apply is temporarily locked by another request. Please try again in a moment.”
How to apply a second set on top
- Open Plathix > Presets.
- Click Apply Preset › on another set, or on the same set again.
- Confirm the dialog.
The result depends on the set:
- The same set again. Every top-level folder gets
- imported: Editorial – imported, Videos – imported, Infographics – imported, Brand – imported. Each has fresh subfolders inside. - A different set. Only the top-level names that both sets share are duplicated. Every bundled set has Brand, so you get at least
Brand - importedwith its own Logos and Icons. - The Preset card on Plathix > Home shows the set you applied last.
How to clear all folders with Start from scratch
- Open Plathix > Presets.
- Click Start from scratch.
- Confirm “This will delete N Plathix folders. Media files will not be deleted. Continue?” The dialog is skipped when there are no folders.
- You land on the Media Library with the notice “All folders have been reset. You can now start from scratch.”
What it does:
- It permanently deletes every folder you created in the Media Library, including folders in the Trash. The N in the dialog counts them too.
- System folders stay. Files stay and appear in Uncategorized.
- If some folders cannot be deleted, the notice reads “Reset completed with N errors.”
How to move your folder tree to another site
- On the source site, open Plathix > Tools.
- In the Export Structure card, click Export to ZIP. A file
<host>-plathix-preset.zipdownloads, for exampleexample-com-plathix-preset.zip. - On the target site, open Plathix > Presets.
- Click Upload preset (.zip).
- Drop the file on “Drop your ZIP preset here”, or click the area to browse.
- Wait while the modal shows “Reading preset file…”.
- Check the ready state: “Don’t forget to apply the preset.”, the file name and “N KB · Preset package”.
- Click Upload. To pick another file, click Upload different.
- Read the notice ‘Preset “…” uploaded successfully.’ The card appears under Custom.
- Click Apply Preset › on the new card. Uploading alone creates no folders.
What the export contains:
- The current Media Library tree: names, nesting, colors and your own favorites.
- Folders with the same parent are sorted by name, case-sensitive, capitals first. Your manual order is not kept.
- System folders and folders in the Trash are skipped.
- The header comes from the site: title “<Site name> — Plathix Preset”, version 1, and the description “Preset created for <Site name> using the Plathix plugin.”. With a tagline the description reads “Preset created for <Site name> — <tagline> using the Plathix plugin.”.
- It also has one tag made from the site name, your WordPress username as author, and the Website from your profile (or the site URL) as author URL. A “Generator: Plathix <version>” line closes the header.
- The preview image is the site logo, else the site icon, else a plugin placeholder. Images over 200 KB are resized to fit 600×400 px.
- The ZIP holds two files:
preset.plx.mdandpreview.png(or.webp,.jpg,.jpeg). preset.plx.mdis plain text. It hasKey: valueheader lines, then## Structure, then one folder per line as- "Name". Each level adds two spaces of indent. A line can end with{color: #RRGGBB, favorite}.- The export stops on a WordPress error page when it cannot finish, for example in these cases:
- A tree with more than 200 folders gives “Preset exceeds the maximum number of structure lines.”
- A tree deeper than 7 levels gives “Preset exceeds maximum depth.”
- If no image can be read, not even the placeholder, you get “Could not resolve a preview image for the preset. Please add a site logo or icon first.”
- A preview image still over 300 KB gives “Preview image exceeds 300 KB limit.”
- A server without the PHP zip extension gives “PHP zip extension is not available.”
How to delete an uploaded preset
- Open Plathix > Presets.
- Find the card under Custom. Every set that is not built-in has Delete.
- Click Delete.
- Confirm “Delete this preset record? This cannot be undone.”
- Read the notice “Preset deleted.”
Built-in sets have no Delete button. Deleting a preset does not remove the folders it created.
How to open the setup dialog again
- Open Plathix > Presets.
- Click Reset wizard, after Start from scratch in the page header.
- Read the notice “Wizard reset. It will appear on the Dashboard on next visit.”
- Open Plathix > Home. The dialog “Set up your media library” appears, with the badge “First setup” and the text “Pick a starting folder structure or start from scratch. You can always change this later.”
- Click Apply on a card, or a footer button: Skip setup, Browse all presets or Start from scratch →.
What the dialog shows:
- The dialog covers the whole screen, including the WordPress menu and the admin bar. While it is open, you cannot reach other admin screens through the menu.
- Up to six cards: the first six valid presets in your catalog, A to Z by title, built-in and uploaded alike. Each card has the name, description, folder count and Apply.
- With only the bundled sets you see Blog & Content, Creative Agency, E-Commerce, Fashion & Apparel, News & Media and Nonprofit.
- The bundled sets join the catalog the first time someone opens Plathix > Presets. Until then the dialog has no cards, only the footer buttons.
- On a fresh install the first Home visit after activation therefore shows the dialog without cards. Click the dialog’s Browse all presets link, then go back to Plathix > Home. Do not click outside the dialog card to reach the menu: that skips the setup.
What the buttons do:
- Skip setup, the × button, the Esc key and a click anywhere outside the dialog card all do the same thing. The dialog is marked as skipped for the whole site, you return to Home, and no folder changes.
- After a skip the dialog does not return unless someone clicks Reset wizard.
- Browse all presets opens Plathix > Presets and does not skip the setup.
- Apply works like Apply Preset › and takes you to the Presets screen with the same notice.
- Start from scratch → works like Start from scratch and takes you to the Media Library.
- In Free, neither Apply nor Start from scratch → ends the setup. The dialog shows on every visit to Home until someone skips it.
- When Plathix PRO is active, this dialog is not shown, with or without a licence. PRO shows its own setup wizard only with an active licence, and its Start from scratch → step deletes no folders. See PRO.
Example
Suppose your site is called Example Blog and has 12 files and no folders yet. The Media Library sidebar shows Media 12 and Uncategorized 12.
- Open Plathix > Presets.
- On Blog & Content, click Apply Preset › and confirm.
- The notice would read ‘Preset “Blog & Content” applied. 8 folders created.’
- In Media > Library the sidebar would show Editorial (Featured Images, Authors), Videos, Infographics and Brand (Logos, Icons). All are empty. Uncategorized still shows 12.
- Back on Plathix > Presets, apply E-Commerce. The notice would read ‘Preset “E-Commerce” applied. 8 folders created.’
- The sidebar would now also have Products (Electronics, Clothing, Home & Garden), Banners and
Brand - importedwith its own Logos and Icons. - Drag
summer-campaign.jpgonto Editorial › Featured Images. - Open Plathix > Tools and click Export to ZIP.
Result: the site would have 16 folders and 11 files in Uncategorized. The exported preset.plx.md would list the tree sorted by name:
`
Structure
- “Banners”
- “Brand”
- “Icons”
- “Logos”
- “Brand – imported”
- “Icons”
- “Logos”
- “Editorial”
- “Authors”
- “Featured Images”
- “Infographics”
- “Products”
- “Clothing”
- “Electronics”
- “Home & Garden”
- “Videos”
`
Uploaded on another site, it would appear under Custom as “Example Blog — Plathix Preset” with “16 folders · Media Library only”. The files themselves are not in the package.
What we tested
There is no dedicated Lab test for ready folder sets yet. One related System Info check reads the presets storage:
| Check | Result |
|---|---|
| Presets checks | Passed: presets table “Exists”, directory guard “Protected” |
Limits
- Presets create folders for the Media Library only, also in PRO.
- Only administrators with full Plathix access can apply, upload, delete or reset.
- Upload accepts
.zipfiles only. Other files get “Only .zip files are accepted. Please upload a valid Plathix preset package.” - The archive must hold exactly two files in its root:
preset.plx.mdand a previewpreview.webp,.png,.jpgor.jpeg. Without a preview you get “Archive is missing a valid preview image.” - A preset package can be up to 512 KB. A larger file gets “File is too large. Preset files should be under 512 KB.”
- Other upload limits: preview up to 300 KB, text file up to 2 MB uncompressed and UTF-8 without BOM, up to 200 folders, up to 7 levels, folder names up to 150 characters.
- Colors must be
#RRGGBBordefault. Tags start with#. Indent with spaces, not tabs. - Title, Slug, Version, Description and Author are required. The
Preview:field must name the image in the archive. Files in the old numbered format are rejected. - Uploading a package with the same slug (the
Slug:line) and the same folder tree updates the existing preset: its title, version, description, tags, author, author URL and preview, whatever the version number. Same tree means the same folder names, nesting and colors, in the same order. The Preset card on Plathix > Home then no longer shows this preset as applied until you apply it again. - A package with the same slug and a different folder tree is added as a separate preset.
- Give your own presets a slug of their own, not the slug of a built-in set.
- Built-in presets cannot be deleted. Deleting any preset leaves its folders in place.
- Applying has no undo. If an apply stops with “Apply failed.”, the folders already created stay.
- Start from scratch deletes folders permanently, including those in the Trash.
- PRO has the same preset features. With PRO active and an active licence, it also records preset actions in its audit log: Preset applied, Preset uploaded, Preset exported, Preset deleted, Preset reset started, Preset reset completed and Preset validation failed. An upload that updates an existing preset appears as
preset_updated. Use the PRO version released for your Plathix version.
In short
A ready folder set creates an empty folder tree in the Media Library and never moves your files. Apply one from Plathix > Presets with Apply Preset ›. Applying a second set adds folders, and shared names get - imported. Export your own tree from Plathix > Tools and upload it on another site with Upload preset (.zip), then apply it. Start from scratch deletes all your folders, and there is no undo for either action.
