The Home screen (Overview)

Free
Edition: Free and PRO (PRO with an active licence adds four cards to the screen) · Plathix Lab: test results on this page

Plathix Home is the first screen of the Plathix menu. It sums up your Media Library on one page: recent uploads, file types, files with no folder, folders and disk use. Use it to see what still needs sorting and to start a folder structure.

When you need this

  • A blog with several authors. Once a month you check how many files came in and how many still have no folder. Fix opens those files so you can sort them.
  • An agency handing a site to a client. Before handover you check that the status badge reads All good and that few files are left unsorted.
  • A WooCommerce store with product photos. You watch how much disk space the uploads take and which file types fill the library.

How to open the Home screen

  1. In the WordPress admin menu, click Plathix.
  2. Click Home, the first item. The address is admin.php?page=plathix.
  • The menu label is Home. This site calls the screen “Overview”.
  • Home is for administrators. Users without administrator rights do not see the menu item, and WordPress refuses the page.
  • The message “You do not have sufficient permissions.” appears only for administrators whose Plathix access was lowered in PRO.
  • After you activate the plugin from the Plugins screen, WordPress sends you here once. This happens within a minute, for the administrator who activated it. It does not happen for bulk, network or WP-CLI activation.
  • Home can open with the setup dialog “Set up your media library” on top. The dialog covers the whole screen, including the WordPress menu. Pressing Esc or clicking anywhere outside the dialog card skips the setup for good.
  • The dialog’s preset cards appear only after someone has opened Plathix > Presets once. If the dialog shows no cards, click its Browse all presets link, then go back to Plathix > Home. See Ready folder sets.

How to read the cards

Read the screen from top to bottom. Some cards show only when they have something to say.

  1. Status bar. “Plathix is active · N folders · N files”, then badges with your WordPress and PHP versions. The last badge reads All good or N issues and links to System Info. N issues counts the System Info checks that need your attention (System Info has a link at the bottom of any Plathix page and in the flyout of Plathix → Tools), plus a warning when PHP is below 8.1.
  2. Migration banner. It shows only when Plathix finds folder data from FileBird, WP Media Folder, Real Media Library, HappyFiles or Wicked Folders that you have not imported. The title reads “FileBird detected” (or the other plugin’s name). The text reads “We found an existing folder structure from FileBird. Import it to Plathix in one click — your organisation will be preserved.” Buttons: Import from FileBird and Dismiss.
  3. Set up Plathix. Cards with a Configure → link. “Enable infinite scroll” shows while infinite scroll is off. “Review SVG policy” shows while SVG uploads use the default policy, “Allow SVG uploads with sanitisation (recommended)”. The block disappears when no card is left.
  4. Uploads. The number of files added in the period, with 7d and 30d tabs. 30d is selected first. Below it: “files · last 30d · peak N/day”. The chart has one point per day. Hover a point to see the date and “N uploads”.
  5. MIME Types. A ring chart with the total and the word “FILES” in the middle. Large totals are shortened (“1.8k”, “120k”, “1.2M”). Hover the number to see the full value. The list shows percentages for these types: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, MP4, MOV, WebM, MP3, WAV and PDF. Up to four of these types are listed. Every other type, and any named type beyond the top four, is grouped as Other. The percentages add up to 100. With no files you see “No media files yet.”
  6. Unsorted. The number of files that are in no folder, with “of M” below, where M is the file total. This is the same number as the Uncategorized folder in the sidebar. Fix opens that folder.
  7. Folders. The folder count, with “N unsorted” below. On the right, the DISK USED ring shows the used space and “of 500 GB” (your disk size). Next to it: the percentage (“<1%” when it would round to 0) and “used / total”. Then Max depth (“N levels”) and Fav. folders (“N ★”). Below: one bar labelled Media with the folder count, and Open Media Library →.
  8. Folders, empty. With no folders the card reads “No folders yet” and “Apply a preset to instantly create a folder structure, or start from scratch.” Apply preset opens the Presets screen. Create folder opens the Media Library.
  9. Preset. Before any set was applied: “Start with a ready-made structure for your type of site.”, three sample rows (Blog & Content, E-Commerce, Creative Agency) that open the Presets screen, and Browse all presets →. After: the set’s name, “N folders · applied X ago” and an Applied badge. Then a short note about presets and ZIP import, Import ZIP, Browse presets → and Export current structure →. N is the number of folders in the set, not the number created on your site.

How the numbers are counted:

  • Files are the attachments that the Media Library grid shows. Elementor’s hidden page screenshots are not counted.
  • The file total includes private attachments. The Uploads and MIME Types cards skip them.
  • Folders do not include the system entries (Media, Uncategorized, Trash) or folders in the Trash.
  • Uploads are grouped by attachment date in your site’s time zone. 7d counts today and the previous 7 days. 30d counts the last 30×24 hours.
  • The chart shows the last 7 or 30 days. The headline can therefore be higher than the sum of the chart.
  • Max depth counts nesting below the top level. With top-level folders only, it reads “0 levels”. A folder inside a top-level folder gives “1 level”. Folders in the Trash are not counted.
  • Fav. folders counts the folders that any user marked as favorite, including favorites that are now in the Trash. A folder favorited by two users counts once.

How to sort files that have no folder

  1. On the Unsorted card, click Fix. The Media Library opens with Uncategorized selected.
  2. Click Bulk select and pick the files you want to move.
  3. Drag them onto a folder in the sidebar.
  4. Open Plathix > Home again. The Unsorted card shows the new count.

More ways to move files: Move files.

How to use the setup cards and the migration banner

  1. In Set up Plathix, click Configure → on a card. “Enable infinite scroll” opens the General tab of Settings. “Review SVG policy” opens the SVG tab.
  2. To hide a card without changing the setting, click its × button (“Dismiss this card”). It stays hidden for your account, with no time limit.
  3. In the migration banner, click Import from FileBird (or the other plugin’s name). Plathix > Tools opens with nothing preselected.
  4. Start the import from the Import from Other Plugins card. See Import from another plugin.
  5. To hide the banner instead, click Dismiss. This hides that source for your account only.

If Plathix finds another plugin later, its banner still shows. A source you already imported is not offered again.

How to get fresh numbers

  1. Reload the page. Home does not refresh itself.
  2. If a count still shows an old number, wait up to one hour. Disk use refreshes once a day. To see new counts at once, move any file into a folder, then reload Home.

When the numbers refresh:

  • Folders, Unsorted, MIME Types, Uploads, Max depth, Fav. folders and the folder and file counts in the status bar refresh within an hour, or at once after you add, edit, move or delete files and folders in the Media Library.
  • In the Media Library sidebar this includes creating, renaming, moving and trashing folders, one or several at a time, and changing favorites.
  • After you apply a preset, use Start from scratch or restore a folder from the Trash, the Folders card, Max depth, Fav. folders and the status-bar folder count can take up to an hour to show the new numbers.
  • Disk use comes from a scan of the uploads directory and refreshes once a day. If the directory cannot be read, the used space shows “—” and the percentage shows 0%. Plathix tries again after 5 minutes.
  • The status badge runs its checks on every page load.

Example

Suppose your site has 12 JPEG files and uses the Blog & Content tree, and eight files are already in folders. Home would show:

  • Status bar: “Plathix is active · 8 folders · 12 files”.
  • MIME Types: “12” and “FILES” in the ring, JPEG 100%.
  • Unsorted: “4” and “of 12”.
  • Folders: “8” and “4 unsorted”, Max depth “1 level”, Fav. folders “0 ★”.

What you would do:

  1. On Unsorted, click Fix. Uncategorized opens with the four unsorted files, say office-interior.jpg, product-detail.jpg, summer-campaign.jpg and blog-header-workspace.jpg.
  2. Drag summer-campaign.jpg and blog-header-workspace.jpg onto Editorial › Featured Images.
  3. Drag office-interior.jpg onto Editorial.
  4. Drag product-detail.jpg onto Brand.
  5. Right-click Brand and choose Add to favorites.
  6. Open Plathix > Home.

Result: you would see Unsorted “0” and “of 12”. The Folders card would read “8” and “0 unsorted”, and Fav. folders “1 ★”. The status bar would still read “8 folders · 12 files”.

What we tested

There is no dedicated Lab test for the Home screen yet. These related checks from other Lab articles touch it:

Check Result
Home status link Passed: “All good” opened System Info and the core health checks were green
3,105 files / 133 folders Passed: browsing, search and filter without freezes; the Plathix Home page loaded in 3.8 s

Limits

  • Only administrators with full Plathix access can open Home.
  • Free counts the Media Library only. The Folders card always shows a single Media bar.
  • Folders added by a preset, folders removed by Start from scratch and folders restored from the Trash can take up to an hour to show on the Folders card. To see them at once, move any file into a folder and reload Home.
  • The sample rows and the note on the Preset card are a short preview. Plathix > Presets lists every bundled set with its folder count.
  • Import ZIP and Export current structure → both open Plathix > Tools, where the Export Structure card is. To upload a preset package, use Upload preset (.zip) on Plathix > Presets.
  • The migration banner shows one source at a time. It can appear while the old plugin is inactive, because Plathix looks for the folder data the old plugin left on your site, not for the plugin itself.
  • With PRO active and an active licence, Home also shows the Content Types, Recent Activity, Gallery Shortcodes and Quick Links cards. Licensed PRO also adds an “Enable audit log” setup card while the audit log is off, and a “New to Plathix?” link. Without a valid licence PRO adds nothing to Home, but it still hides the Free setup dialog. Use the PRO version released for your Plathix version. See PRO.

In short

Plathix > Home shows uploads, file types, unsorted files, folders and disk use for your Media Library. Fix on the Unsorted card opens the Uncategorized folder so you can sort those files. The counts refresh within an hour, or at once after you add, move or delete files and folders in the Media Library. Disk use refreshes once a day. Only administrators can open the screen.
