Danger Zone

Free
Edition: Free. With Plathix PRO active, the same button also deletes PRO data.

The Danger Zone tab deletes everything Plathix stored on your site in one action. Use it to reset the plugin, or to remove its data before you delete the plugin. Your media files, images and posts stay in WordPress and keep their URLs.

When you need this

  • An agency created test folders while building a client site. Before the handover, it wipes the test folders and settings so the client starts clean.
  • You tried Plathix and decided not to keep it. You delete its data first, then delete the plugin.
  • An import from another folder plugin gave you a tree you do not want. You wipe the Plathix data and run the import again.

How to save your folder tree before a wipe

The wipe has no undo and makes no backup. Export the tree first if you may need it again.

  1. Go to Plathix → Tools.
  2. In the Export Structure card, click Export to ZIP.
  3. Save the ZIP file on your computer. The wipe also deletes the presets stored on the site.

The ZIP keeps folder names, nesting, colors and your favorite marks. It leaves out folders in Trash and does not keep which file is in which folder. Export to ZIP handles up to 200 folders and 7 levels. For a larger tree, Plathix shows an error page with “Preset exceeds the maximum number of structure lines.” or “Preset exceeds maximum depth.” and makes no ZIP. See Export and import the folder structure.

How to delete all Plathix data

  1. Go to Plathix → Settings.
  2. Click the Danger Zone tab. It is always the last tab.
  3. Read the Delete all plugin data block: “Permanently removes everything Plathix created — folders, presets, settings. Your media files, images and posts are NOT touched.”
  4. Click Delete all data…. A dialog opens with the title Delete all Plathix data? and the red notice “This cannot be undone.”
  5. Read the list under Will be permanently deleted:
    • “All folders and their structure”
    • “Folder presets and applied-preset history”
    • “All plugin settings and preferences”
    • “Favorites, colors and folder positions”
  6. Read the green notice NOT touched: “your images, files and posts stay in the Media Library — they only lose their folder assignment.”
  7. Tick I understand this is permanent and cannot be undone. The Delete all data button stays disabled until you tick it. You do not need to type anything.
  1. Click Delete all data. The button changes to “Deleting…”. When the wipe is done, the page reloads.

To close the dialog without deleting anything, click Cancel or the ✕ button, or press Escape. The checkbox is cleared.

If another folder operation is running at that moment, Plathix deletes nothing and the dialog shows “Cleanup failed. Please try again.” Wait a moment and click Delete all data again.

What the wipe deletes

  • All Plathix folders, including folders in Trash, with their data and file assignments.
  • All presets stored on the site, including uploaded preset files, and the applied-preset history.
  • Plathix data stored on your files, for example the time a file was moved to Plathix Trash.
  • All Plathix settings. They return to their defaults.
  • Plathix data of this site’s users: favorites, the last open folder, and dismissed Home notices.
  • Plathix background jobs and their logs.
  • Plathix temporary files.
  • With Plathix PRO active, the same button also deletes PRO data such as the audit log and API service tokens.

What stays

  • Attachments, posts and pages, and all your media files. File URLs do not change.
  • The plugin stays active. Uncategorized and Trash come back on the next page load.
  • Files in the WordPress trash stay there. After the wipe, nothing deletes them automatically, so restore them or delete them permanently yourself.
  • On multisite, only the current site is wiped. Other sites keep their folders and settings.

How to remove only your folders

Use Start from scratch when you want to delete your folders but keep your settings.

  1. Go to Plathix → Presets.
  2. Click Start from scratch.
  3. Confirm the browser message “This will delete %d Plathix folders. Media files will not be deleted. Continue?” (%d is your folder count).

Plathix opens Media → Library with the notice “All folders have been reset. You can now start from scratch.” The folders are deleted at once. They do not go to Trash. Their files appear in Uncategorized. See Ready folder sets.

Example

Suppose your blog uses the Blog & Content tree: Editorial › Featured Images, Authors; Videos; Infographics; Brand › Logos, Icons. summer-campaign.png is in Editorial › Featured Images, and logo.png is in Brand › Logos. “Trash retention” is set to 60 days.

  1. You go to Plathix → Tools and click Export to ZIP. You keep the ZIP.
  2. You go to Plathix → Settings → Danger Zone and click Delete all data….
  3. You tick the checkbox and click Delete all data. The page reloads.

Result: you would see only Media, Uncategorized and Trash in the tree. summer-campaign.png and logo.png would still be in the Media Library, with the same URLs, and would appear in Uncategorized. “Trash retention” would be back to 30 days. The ZIP could bring back the empty folder tree with its colors, but not the file assignments.

Limits

  • There is no partial wipe. To delete only your folders, use Plathix → Presets → Start from scratch.
  • There is no backup and no undo. One administrator can run the wipe, with no second approval.
  • Only administrators with Full Plathix access can open Plathix → Settings. In Free, that means users with the Administrator role.
  • Export to ZIP handles up to 200 folders and 7 levels. It leaves out folders in Trash and does not keep file assignments.
  • With Plathix PRO active, the wipe also deletes the PRO license key. Enter it again after the wipe. Use the PRO version released for your Plathix version.
  • On multisite, the network-wide SVG setting stays. It is removed only when Plathix is deleted from the network.
  • Deleting the plugin (Plugins → Delete) removes the same Plathix data on every site, with no option to keep it. PRO data is removed when you delete PRO, if Plathix Free is still installed. Delete PRO first.

In short

Plathix → Settings → Danger Zone → Delete all data… deletes all Plathix folders, presets, settings and user preferences in one action. Your files, posts and pages stay, and files land in Uncategorized. There is no undo, so export the folder tree from Plathix → Tools first. With Plathix PRO active, PRO data such as the audit log, API service tokens and the license key is deleted too. To delete only folders, use Plathix → Presets → Start from scratch.
