Folders in Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, WooCommerce and Polylang

Free
Edition: Free · Plathix Lab: test results on this page

Plathix adds its folder tree to the standard WordPress media window. Every editor or plugin that opens that window shows your folders, with no setting to turn on. This page shows how to use the folders in each tested builder and lists what the recorded runs checked.

When you need this

  • A blog built with the block editor. Authors pick featured images from Editorial › Featured Images instead of scrolling the whole library.
  • An agency building client pages in Elementor or Divi. The designer picks logos from Brand › Logos without leaving the builder.
  • A WooCommerce store. Product photos sorted by product line are one click away in Set product image.
  • A bilingual site on Polylang. One folder tree serves both languages.

How to pick an image from a folder in Gutenberg

Tested with WordPress 7.1, last run 13 September 2026, twelve checks over two runs, all passed. Details: Gutenberg compatibility.

  1. In a post, add an Image block and click Media Library.
  2. Click a folder in the tree on the left. The grid shows that folder’s files. The counts are the same as in the Media Library.
  3. Pick a file and click Select.

The same tree is in the Gallery and Cover blocks and in the featured image window. To upload into a folder, open it and switch to Upload files. The new file is saved into that folder, not into Uncategorized. A folder created in the picker appears in the Media Library at once.

After publishing, a gallery photo was moved to another folder in the test. The post kept both photos, and the file path stayed the same.

How to use folders in Elementor

Tested with Elementor 4.2.3 (August 2026, with Divi 5.2.0 as theme). The Image widget and the upload tab were checked again on Elementor 4.2.4 with WordPress 7.1.1 on 22 September 2026. All checks passed. Details: Elementor compatibility.

  1. Add an Image widget and click Choose Image.
  2. Switch to Media Library in the window that opens.
  3. Click a folder in the tree.
  4. Pick an image and click Select. The image appears on the canvas.

The tree is also there for the featured image in the page settings and for container background images.

  • Search inside an open folder is limited to that folder.
  • Close the picker and open it again in the same session, and it comes back to the folder you left.
  • To upload into a folder, open it and switch to Upload files. The file lands in that folder and is selected.
  • Elementor’s drag on the canvas and Plathix drag inside the picker do not get in each other’s way.
  • A published page keeps its image after the file is moved to another folder.

Uploads go into the folder highlighted in the tree, so click the folder you want before you switch to Upload files.

How to use folders in Divi

Tested with Divi 5.2.0 as the active theme and WordPress 7.1. The Visual Builder picker checks were repeated on WordPress 7.1.2 on 22 September 2026. Five checks, all passed. Details: Divi compatibility.

  1. In the Visual Builder, open Page Settings → Featured Image and click Add Image. For an Image module, open its image setting.
  2. Click a folder in the tree. The grid shows only that folder’s files.
  3. Pick a file and confirm. In the Image module test the button read Upload an image.

Text editing and module dragging in the Visual Builder work as usual with Plathix active.

How to use folders for WooCommerce product images

Tested with WooCommerce 11.0.1 (August) and 11.1.1 (22 September 2026), a store with 200 products and seven other plugins active. Seven checks, all passed. Details: WooCommerce compatibility.

  1. Edit a product and click Set product image.
  2. Open a folder. The tree shows the correct counts, and the grid loads that folder’s files.
  3. Pick a photo and click Set product image.
  4. For the gallery, click Add product gallery images, open a folder, select the photos with Ctrl and click Add to gallery.

Switching folders in the picker clears the selection. To add photos from another folder, click Add product gallery images again.

A CSV import with image URLs already in the library matches the existing files and uploads nothing twice. Bulk edit and export leave folders untouched. With 200 product images sorted into four folders, every product page loaded and a folder opened in about two seconds.

How to work with folders on a Polylang site

Tested with Polylang and three languages, WordPress 7.1, last run 13 September 2026. Four checks, all passed. Details: Polylang compatibility.

  1. Open Media → Library in any admin language. The folder tree is the same in every language.
  2. Click a folder and upload files into it. Files uploaded with the admin language set to English and to Russian land in the same folder.
  3. Switch the admin language. The folder counts do not change.

Plathix marks its folders as not translatable, so Polylang does not duplicate them per language.

With Media (all files) open, Polylang’s language filter in the admin bar still filters the grid. If the grid shows fewer files than the Media count, choose Show all languages. Inside a folder Plathix shows files in every language.

Example

Suppose you write a post about a summer campaign in the block editor, on a site with the Blog & Content tree.

  1. Add an Image block and click Media Library. Open Brand › Logos. If it holds only logo.png, the grid would show that one file. Pick it and click Select.
  2. Add a second Image block, click Media Library and open Editorial › Featured Images (3 files).
  3. Switch to Upload files and upload team-offsite.png, a file that is not on the site yet. The picker would return to Featured Images with the new file selected, and the count would show 4.
  4. Click Select and publish the post.
  5. Later, in the Media Library, move team-offsite.png to Infographics. Open the post again. Both images would still be there.

Result: you would pick and upload files by folder without leaving the editor, and moving a file afterwards would not break the post.

Polylang: With Polylang’s language filter set to one language, the media grid showed fewer files than the folder count. Switching the other eight plugins off one by one traced it to the Polylang filter itself; Plathix counts were correct throughout. Passed
The media picker works with ACF, Beaver Builder, Oxygen, Modula and Brizy Passed

Each compatibility page lists every check with versions, dates and proof screenshots.

Limits

  • Inside every picker the tree has no Search folders field, no Sort button and no Favorites block. See Find files fast.
  • Switching folders in a picker clears the selection, so you pick a gallery from one folder at a time.
  • The Image block picker shows only images. A folder that also holds a PDF shows a higher count than the files you see.
  • WooCommerce keeps the imported CSV file in the Media Library. It lands in the Default upload folder, or in Uncategorized when none is set.
  • In Elementor, click a folder before you upload. The upload goes into the folder highlighted in the tree.
  • The tested editors and builders, with versions and dates, are listed on Compatibility.

In short

Plathix puts its folder tree into the standard WordPress media window, so Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi and WooCommerce show your folders with no setup. Open a folder in the picker to see its files, or switch to Upload files to upload straight into it. Moving a file to another folder later does not break posts or pages that use it. On Polylang sites one folder tree serves every language. The picker has no folder search, sort or Favorites block.
