Import from Real Media Library

Free
Edition: Free and PRO (the import is Free; PRO adds wp plathix import start --adapter=realmedialib) · Compatibility: Real Media Library

Plathix can rebuild a Real Media Library (RML) folder tree as Plathix folders and put the same files into them. RML keeps its folder list in its own part of the WordPress database, and Plathix reads it from there directly. This page lists what is specific to RML; the general procedure is on Import folders from another plugin.

When you need this

  • An agency takes over a client site that used Real Media Library and moves it to Plathix.
  • You used RML shortcuts and want to know where each file ends up.

How to import from Real Media Library

  1. Back up the database.
  2. Go to Plathix → Tools, card Import from Other Plugins.
  3. On the Real Media Library tile, check that the status is “✓ Detected”.
  4. Click Import from Real Media Library.
  5. Wait for “Import completed. Moved items: N”.

What Plathix reads: the RML folder list, with each folder’s name and parent folder in RML folder ID order, and which file is in which folder. Shortcuts are not read.

Plathix detects RML when the RML folder list is in the database. An empty folder list also shows “✓ Detected”. The import then ends with 0 moved items, and the tile shows “✓ Imported” after a reload.

How to check the Real Media Library result

  1. Open Media → Library.
  2. Compare the tree with RML. Top-level RML folders are top-level Plathix folders.
  3. Look for files that were shortcuts in RML. Shortcuts do not appear; each file is only in its real folder.
  4. Check the order. Folders at the same level are created in order of their RML folder ID. Any manual order you set in RML is not read. They are placed after any folders that already existed at that level.

Example

Suppose logo.png is in RML’s Brand › Logos and has a shortcut in Editorial › Featured Images. After the import, logo.png would be only in Brand › Logos. Featured Images would be created, without that file.

Limits

  • Shortcuts are not imported. A file that appears in a second RML folder as a shortcut is imported once, into its real folder.
  • Plathix reads only the name and parent folder of each folder. Any other property of an RML folder, such as its type, is not read, so every RML folder becomes a plain Plathix folder.
  • Folder colors, RML’s manual order and RML settings do not carry over.
  • A folder whose parent folder no longer exists in the RML folder list is skipped, together with everything inside it.
  • Files that are already in a Plathix folder are moved to the imported folder.
  • Run each import once. After a reload the tile shows “✓ Imported” and its button is turned off, once at least one file has been moved.
  • The command wp plathix import start --adapter=realmedialib needs PRO, active with a valid license. Use the PRO version released for your Plathix version.

In short

Plathix reads the RML folder data directly, so RML can be inactive. Names, nesting and real file assignments carry over. Shortcuts do not, and every RML folder becomes a plain folder. Siblings are created in RML ID order.
