Import from FileBird

Free
Edition: Free and PRO (the import is Free; PRO adds wp plathix import start --adapter=filebird) · Compatibility: FileBird

Plathix can rebuild a FileBird folder tree as Plathix folders and put the same files into them. FileBird keeps its folder list in its own part of the WordPress database, and Plathix reads it from there directly. This page lists what is specific to FileBird; the general procedure is on Import folders from another plugin.

When you need this

  • You used FileBird on a blog and are moving to Plathix.
  • Several editors kept FileBird Pro personal folders, and you want their files in the shared Plathix tree. Same-name personal folders at the same level are merged. See Limits.

How to import from FileBird

  1. Back up the database.
  2. Go to Plathix → Tools, card Import from Other Plugins.
  3. On the FileBird tile, check that the status is “✓ Detected”.
  4. Click Import from FileBird.
  5. Wait for “Import completed. Moved items: N”.

What Plathix reads: FileBird’s folder list, with each folder’s name and parent folder in FileBird’s own folder order, and which file is in which folder.

The import is made for the FileBird versions on WordPress.org, 4.3.1 and later. FileBird can be deactivated; only its folder data must still be in the database. Plathix detects FileBird when FileBird’s folder list is in the database. An empty folder list also shows “✓ Detected”. The import then ends with 0 moved items, and the tile shows “✓ Imported” after a reload.

How to check the FileBird result

  1. Open Media → Library.
  2. Compare the top level with FileBird. Top-level FileBird folders are top-level Plathix folders.
  3. Check the order. Folders are created in FileBird’s own order and keep that order in Plathix, placed after any folders that already existed at the same level.
  4. Open a few nested folders and check their files.

Example

Suppose a site has the FileBird folders Editorial › Featured Images, Authors and Brand › Logos, Icons, with logo.png in Logos. After the import, Plathix would show the same tree in the same order, and logo.png would be in Brand › Logos with the same URL.

Limits

  • Folder colors are not carried over. FileBird settings are not read.
  • The import reads all folders, whoever created them. FileBird Pro personal folders, which FileBird shows to one user only, become ordinary shared Plathix folders. Plathix has no private folders. If two users had personal folders with the same name at the same level, their files end up in one shared folder.
  • A file in several FileBird folders ends up in one Plathix folder. A subfolder wins over its parent. Between unrelated folders, the one handled later wins, following the read order above.
  • A folder whose parent folder no longer exists in FileBird’s folder list is skipped, together with everything inside it.
  • Files that are already in a Plathix folder are moved to the imported folder.
  • Folder names that break the name rules are skipped together with their subfolders. See Import folders from another plugin.
  • Run each import once. After a reload the tile shows “✓ Imported” and its button is turned off, once at least one file has been moved.
  • The command wp plathix import start --adapter=filebird needs PRO, active with a valid license. Use the PRO version released for your Plathix version.

In short

Plathix reads FileBird’s folder data directly, so FileBird can be inactive during the import. Names, nesting, FileBird’s folder order and file assignments carry over. Colors and settings do not. Personal FileBird Pro folders become shared Plathix folders, and same-name ones at the same level are merged.
